Family

Therapy

Collaborative support for families who want to communicate more effectively, work through conflict, navigate change, and create healthier patterns that support both individual family members and the family as a whole.

No matter its structure, family is one of the primary environments where we develop, learn, communicate, and relate to others. Family therapy at Create & Connect provides a safe space for family members to contribute their perspectives, challenge patterns that are no longer working, and collaborate on changes that allow everyone involved to grow in healthier ways.

Available in person and by telehealth, based on service area and clinician availability.

Good Fit?

Is Individual Therapy Right for You?

Family therapy may be a good fit when a concern affects more than one person in the household or when the way family members interact has become part of the challenge.

Families do not have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. When tension, disconnection, repeated conflict, or changes in one family member begin affecting everyone else, getting support early can make those patterns easier to understand and change. Family therapy creates space to address what is happening together, strengthen relationships, and build healthier ways of communicating before frustration and distance become the family’s new normal.

Communication that frequently becomes conflict, criticism, withdrawal, or misunderstanding

Parent-child or sibling conflict that feels difficult to resolve

Major family transitions such as separation, divorce, remarriage, blended families, moving, or changes in household roles

Behavioral or emotional concerns affecting multiple members of the family

Parenting challenges or disagreement about expectations, boundaries, and discipline

Stress related to caregiving, illness, loss, school, work, or other major life circumstances

Feeling disconnected from one another despite wanting a stronger family relationship

Repeating patterns that seem to continue regardless of which family member is trying to change

Important Context About Our Approach To Family Therapy

Create & Connect practices from a family systems perspective. This means we recognize that people do not develop or experience challenges in isolation. Each family member influences and is influenced by the relationships, communication patterns, expectations, stressors, and dynamics within the larger family system.

Because of this, therapy is not focused on identifying one person as “the problem.” Instead, we look at what is happening between family members and how changes within the system can create healthier outcomes for everyone involved.

The more appropriately involved members of the family system are able to participate, the more information and opportunity we often have to create meaningful and lasting change.

When significant concerns involving safety, violence, intimidation, abuse, or coercive control are present, traditional family sessions may not be the safest or most appropriate starting point. Your therapist can help determine what type of support may be appropriate.

Before You Request

What to Know

Session fee

$100 for a standard 50-minute therapy session. We do not charge more simply because more family members participate in a family therapy session. Family therapy sessions are therefore priced by the session rather than by the number of family members participating.

Appointment format

In-person and telehealth options may be available. Depending on the family’s needs and the goals of therapy, sessions may include the entire family, several family members, parents or caregivers, siblings, or different combinations of family members at different points in the therapeutic process.

Insurance

Create & Connect is self-pay and out-of-network; insurance is not billed directly

Reimbursement

Documentation may be available for clients seeking out-of-network reimbursement

Financial access

Limited reduced-fee options may be available based on clinician, service, and current availability

Payment

HSA/FSA cards may be accepted when permitted by your plan

Create & Connect Therapy is not affiliated with insurance companies because we believe the highest quality care comes from being fully accountable to our clients, not to labels, diagnoses, or third‑party control of your care. By remaining independent of insurance, we protect your confidentiality, tailor support to your unique needs, and ensure that your care is never dictated or limited by insurance company control.

The Process

What to Expect

1. Review the information on this page

Before requesting an appointment, review the service details, appointment options, fees, insurance information, and cancellation policy to make sure individual therapy is a good fit for your needs.

2. Request an appointment

When you are ready, submit an appointment request with your preferred contact method, appointment format, and general availability. We will follow up with available appointment options. You do not need to determine in advance exactly which family members should attend every session. Your therapist can help determine who may be most helpful to involve based on the concerns your family is addressing.

3. Complete brief intake forms

Before your first appointment, participating family members or caregivers may be asked to complete intake forms and review practice policies. These forms help your therapist understand the concerns bringing your family to therapy, important family relationships and history, and the different perspectives that may be contributing to the current situation.

4. Meet with your therapist

At a time that works for your family, meet with your therapist in person or by telehealth. Your first session is an opportunity to talk about what is bringing your family to therapy, hear the perspectives of participating family members, identify what each person hopes can improve, and begin establishing goals for your work together. Your therapist is not there to determine which family member is right or wrong. Instead, sessions focus on understanding how family members affect one another, recognizing patterns that may be keeping the family stuck, and developing healthier ways of communicating, setting boundaries, solving problems, and responding to one another. Who participates in sessions may change over time. At different points, it may be most helpful to meet with the full family, parents or caregivers, siblings, or another combination of family members. Therapy goals are developed collaboratively and may evolve as the family begins making changes.

Therapy goals are developed collaboratively and may change over time as your needs and circumstances evolve.

Scheduling

Important Scheduling Information

Because family sessions may involve several people’s schedules, we encourage families to choose appointment times that allow the appropriate family members to participate consistently whenever possible.

Your therapist may also recommend different combinations of family members for different sessions depending on the goals of therapy.

Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Late cancellations and missed appointments may be charged 50% of the regular session fee. Emergency circumstances are considered individually.

Crisis Resources

Create & Connect is an outpatient practice and does not provide 24/7 crisis intervention. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent support, call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency department.

Next Steps

Start With the Right Next Step

If your family is experiencing conflict, disconnection, communication difficulties, behavioral concerns, a major transition, or another challenge that is affecting the family as a whole, family therapy can provide a structured place to begin working through it together.

You do not need to decide who is responsible for the problem before coming to therapy. From a family systems perspective, meaningful change often happens when we move beyond asking “Who is the problem?” and begin asking “What is happening within the family, and what can we change together?”

When appropriate, we encourage the involvement of the people who are part of that family system—and we do not increase the session fee based simply on the number of family members participating.

The goal is not just to help one person function better within the family. It is to help create healthier relationships and patterns that allow individual family members and the family as a whole to grow and succeed.
